A man escaped the Saskatchewan River yesterday (wed) with minor injuries, thanks to the RCMP.
Grand Rapids RCMP responded to a call for assistance in the town, where a man was being pulled downstream by a strong current, until he was able to grab onto the ice edge.
Mounties attempted a rescue with a rope throw bag but with no success, and after the male was beginning to lose consciousness, an officer trained as an Ice Rescue Technician crawled onto the ice.
The officer managed to grab hold of the male, where they were both pulled off the ice to safety.
