SGI Releases Stats From December Traffic Safety Focus on Impaired Driving

The numbers are in from SGI’s December traffic safety focus on impaired driving.

Police across the province reported 369 offences, which spokesman Tyler McMurchy says is up from past months where distracted driving was the spotlight.

“We saw in 2019 295 impaired driving offences and in 2018 we saw 352,” McMurchy said. “It is a bit higher and this does cap off a year where we did see the number of impaired driving offences, on average, go up over the previous year.”

McMurchy says they saw an average of 378 impaired drivers per month last year.

As well, there were were 414 people caught for distracted driving, 207 for improper seat restraints, and 34-hundred for speeding or aggressive driving.
