New Natural Gas Consumption Record Set in Saskatchewan In As Many Days

For the second time this week, a new record for natural gas consumption was set in Saskatchewan.

SaskEnergy says 1.59 petajoules was used today (Fri), beating the previous mark of 1.57 petajoules from Tuesday (Feb. 9).

A petajoule is a unit of measurement equivalent to one million gigajoules (GJ) of natural gas, and the average Saskatchewan home uses 100 gigajoules of natural gas annually.

Daily consumption numbers are tracked over a 24-hour period from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m.

SaskEnergy says its pipeline system is capable of handling increased demand, even on peak record days.
