Catholic Schools Win Theodore School Court Case

The Supreme Court of Canada has dismissed an appeal brought forward by the Good Spirit School Division in the Theodore School court case.

In April of 2017, Yorkton Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Donald Layh ruled that Catholic schools could no longer receive funding for non-Catholic students.

But, last March, the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal overturned that decision, and today (Thu) the Supreme Court confirmed that ruling.

The Theodore Public School closed in June of 2003, but community residents were successful in converting it to a Catholic school by September of 2003, and it remains open to this day.
