Former Humboldt Bronco Player Kaleb Dahlgren Releases Memoir Called “Crossroads”

The cover of a book being released Tuesday is Kaleb Dahlgren actually standing in the ill fated intersection where the Humboldt Broncos bus was hit by a semi April 6th, 2018. Sixteen people died that day and Kaleb was one of 13 survivors.

The 23 year old’s memoir is also titled Crossroads and he sends his gratitude to Nipawin RCMP which facilitated shutting down the intersection of Highways 335 and 35 in order to take the photo. He says it took two tries to get the shot they wanted and both times were hard, “But it was also kind of healing in a sense too. It was like conquering one of those fears of being back in that intersection, literally standing right in the middle of it. And I wanted the image to be super powerful that spoke more than a thousand words.”

Crossroads is Kaleb’s story of surviving the Humboldt Broncos bus crash, of being a Type 1 diabetic, a brain injury survivor and a young man who has to deal with the realization he’ll never play competitive hockey again. He says he hopes the book will allow readers to find the crossroads in their life and help them through it, “I think we all face challenges in life that test us mentally, physically and emotionally and it could be school, work, illness, death, athletics…it could be really anything. But enjoy that grind and the process and to find the positive in it, to control the things that we can control because we don’t know how long we have on this earth and for me, I want to make the most of my time here.”

Kaleb Dahlgren is a Type 1 diabetic and says hockey legend Bobby Clarke, also a diabetic, provided input before the release date March 16, 2021. In addition, he says Crossroads
