Abernethy Resident Receives Sentence For January 2020 Incident Involving Alleged Assault of Police Officers

One of two Abernethy residents arrested following a January 2020 incident, involving the alleged assault of police officers, has learned her fate.

Around 3 a.m. on January 19, 2020, RCMP were called to an Abernethy home, to deal with a domestic dispute, and when Mounties tried to arrest the man, both suspects became aggressive, allegedly assaulting the officers.

A taser was used on the woman, to no effect, and the man tried to grab it from the officer, and additional officer were called in, to help with the arrests.

In September, 20-year-old Marlee Quewezance pled guilty to Assaulting a Peace Officer, and on March 8th, she received an 18-month conditional discharge.

Her co-accused, 25-year-old Brandon Poorman, has pleaded “not guilty,” to two counts of Assaulting a Peace Officer, and three other charges, and his trial is set for April 22nd, in Fort Qu’Appelle.
