Opaskwayak Cree Nation, located near The Pas, is transitioning from the RCMP to the Manitoba First Nations Police Service.
Effective at 8 a.m. MB time today, the Manitoba First Nations Police Service will be taking all calls for service.
Active files that are expected to conclude within a short timeframe will remain with the RCMP, while long-term files will be shared or passed from the Mounties to MFNPS, at the discretion of the Commanding Officers.
Originally established as the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council Police Department in 1977, the department has operated as the Manitoba First Nations Police Service since 2018.
