Manitoba Expanding Who is Eligible to Get a COVID-19 Vaccine

Front-line police officers and firefighters are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in Manitoba, either at a supersite or pop-up clinic.

Medical Lead on the Vaccination Task Force Dr. Joss Reimer adds that the province is working on a list of prioritized communities, “where all adults aged 18 and over who live in specific geographies will be eligible for immunization.”

“These decisions are being based on an analysis of COVID-19 rates, population density, percentages of racialized populations, income, and suitable housing in those areas.” she added.

Dr. Reimer hopes to announce the first communities later this week.

Meanwhile, vaccine eligibility has been expanded to include all Manitobans 50-and-older, and First Nations 30-and-older.

Reimer adds that as of this week, the Astra-Zeneca vaccine can be administered to Manitobans 40-and-older.
