In an update released early Sunday afternoon, SaskPower says “all but a small amount” of power lines have been repaired as efforts continue to fix secondary power lines damaged by Thursday night’s ice storm.
Secondary power lines are lines that connect a customer’s home to the SaskPower grid
SaskPower is allocating as many workers as possible to address the damage in areas such as Melville, where 48 field workers are out; normally there would be 5 field workers in the Rail City.
The Crown Utility also says there are also six Vegetation Management team members working to clear branches and trees on lines.
As of 11 a.m. Sunday, the SaskPower Outage Centre estimated 838 customers are without power, however, this number is subject to change. SaskPower says they hope to have many of these customers restored later today (Sun).
The provincial power company does note “customers with damaged secondary service lines or service masts – the connection point of the secondary service line – will need to reach out to a local electrician or contractor to conduct the repair.”
“Crews will also need to receive written consent from the home’s resident prior to installing a temporary fix.” they added.
That fix is hanging a temporary overhead line or laying a temporary line on the ground if there isn’t another option.
Affected customers are still encouraged to call the Outage Centre if they still have no power. The phone number is 310-2220.
