SaskPower released another update on Thursday night’s ice storm that affected led to power outages in many areas of East and Southeastern Saskatchewan.
The provincial power company says power has been restored to the majority of affected power lines, and as of late Saturday night, about 620 customers were without power overnight.
SaskPower says “the remaining bulk of customers without service are from damaged secondary service lines (the lines that connect homes to SaskPower infrastructure) or service masts (equipment that connects the line to the home).”
Of the 620 customers:
- Melville rural area – 200
- Pasqua district (including McLean, Vibank, Odessa, and Qu’Appelle) – 200
- Melville city – 190
- Yorkton city – 17
- Yorkton rural area – 11
- Good Spirit Lake area – 2
The focus for today (Sun) will be on the Melville area where there are damaged secondary lines.
“With a damaged secondary service line or service mast, an electrician will need to be enlisted by the customer to conduct the repair,” Saskpower said. “Our crews are able to do a temporary fix (by either hanging an overhead temporary line or laying a temporary line on the ground), but customers will need to have their service mast repaired before a permanent fix can take place.
“Our crews will also need to make contact with the customer before a temporary fix can happen.”
The Crown Utility thanks everyone for their patience as efforts continue, and again encourage customers to report an outage at saskpower.com/reportoutage or to call the Outage Centre at 310-2220.
