Canada Day celebrations will not take place in the city of Melville, in light of the 751 unmarked graves found at Marieval Indian Residential School on the Cowessess First Nation.
The Rail City announced last night that all events have been postponed, including the parade, fireworks and a yard decorating contest.
City council made the decision as a sign of respect for the Cowessess First Nation and all residental school survivors and their families.
Council also encourages residents to light a candle at their homes in support of all residential school survivors.
