Independent Investigation Requested into RCMP Involved Shooting on George Gordon’s First Nation

The Saskatchewan RCMP requested an independent investigation be done into an RCMP involved shooting on the George Gordon’s First Nation.

Tuesday afternoon (July 6), Punnichy RCMP officers responded to a report of a man armed with a rifle and making threats.

Saskatchewan RCMP say in the course of events the responding officers discharged a firearm and wounded the man, then immediately performed life-saving measures on the man until EMS arrived but the man was pronounced dead by paramedics.
Firearms from the man and the officers were seized.
Saskatchewan RCMP has requested two independent investigation observers, including one of First Nations ancestry.
The Weyburn Police Service will be conducting this investigation.
Support services are being organized for the family of the deceased and police officers.
