Speeding Past Police With Emergency Lights Activated Proves Costly for the Driver

One driver learned the hard way not to speed past emergency vehicles with their lights activated.

On June 27th, Weyburn and Regina combined traffic services officers were conducting a traffic stop on Highway 1 west of Qu’Appelle.

While their emergency lights were activated a vehicle drove past them at 83 km/h and was subsequently pulled over.

An oral fluid device test was conducted on the driver, which detected cannabis, and a further search of the vehicle turned up 16 cartons of illegal cigarettes.

The driver was handed tickets for passing an emergency vehicle over 60 km/h and violating the Tobacco Tax Act, plus a roadside driver’s license suspension and had the vehicle impounded.
