Crimes Reported Between April-to-June 2021 in Melville Down Compared to Same Time Last Year: Melville/Ituna RCMP

The Melville/Ituna RCMP detachment released crime stats covering April to June of this year.

Staff Sergeant Travis Adams says, in a letter to Melville Mayor Walter Streelasky included with this report, there was a slight decrease in reported crimes with 353 compared to the same time last year when there were 415 reported crimes.

Traffic offences reported were down to 120 in the second quarter of this year compared to 248 in the same quarter in 2020.

The most reported traffic offence was for speeding at 41, while there were 2 calls for impaired driving and 2 motor vehicle accidents that resulted in injury.

Adams says the number of reported thefts are down this year to 11 compared to 16 in the same quarter last year.

The number of reported Break and Enters is low with 10.

Adams says their priorities for this year include traffic safety, drugs, community safety, youth and rural crime, which align with provincial priorities.

Also of note, he says there is one vacant Constable spot and another Constable expected to return from maternity leave by the end of November of this year.
