Canada’s New Governor General Has Been Installed

Canada’s first Indigenous Governor General was installed in a scaled-back ceremony on Parliament Hill this morning. Mary Simon is Inuk, and hails from northern Quebec. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau named Simon as his choice to be the Queen’s representative in Canada earlier this month. Simon replaces Julie Payette who resigned in January under a cloud of controversy.
