Tourism Yorkton Reports an Increase in Tourists During June and July of This Year

Yorkton saw an increase in tourism during June and July compared to last year.

In June, a total of 170 visitors came to the Tourism Yorkton Visitor Centre, and 253 visitors came in July, for a total of 423 visitors in those two months.

Coincidentally, Tourism Yorkton says the number of visitors in June 2021 is exactly the same as June 2020.

66 percent of visitors from June this year were from Saskatchewan, and in July the percentage of visitors from Saskatchewan dropped to 29 percent, something Tourism Yorkton says is “less to do with a significant drop in Saskatchewan visitors and more to do with the significant increase of out of province travelers, especially after reopening in early July.”

“Visitors from Alberta and Manitoba were only 25% of visitors in June and July compared to those months last year where they were just under 40%.” the organization said in a news release.

There were also some visitors coming from Quebec and even the Maritimes provinces.

Tourism has a big economic impact to the city, as $38.1-million has been spent directly in Yorkton by visitors to the region.
