Saskatchewan And Manitoba Continues Their Fight With Wildfires

The hot, dry weather continues in Saskatchewan, along with the ongoing battle against wildfires.

131 fires are currently burning in the province, with 88 receiving ongoing assessment, and 21 threatening property and infrastructure.

14 fires are listed as burning out of control, while firefighting crews have contained eight fires.

To date, Saskatchewan has seen 530 wildfires in 2021, and the five year average has increased to 251.

Meanwhile, Manitoba continues to struggle in its battle against wildfires.

158 fires are currently active in the province, with 12 raging out of control and 19 being listed as under control, including a 500-hectare fire south of The Pas.

To date, six First Nations and three Northern Affairs communities are under partial or full evacuations, due to smoke and loss of hydro electric power.

Manitoba is receiving out of province support from Quebec, Nova Scotia, the Northwest Territories, Ontario, Parks Canada and the State of Michigan, in battling the fires.
