Yorkton City Council Awards Tender for Demolition of Old Ramada Property; Noise Bylaw Exemptions Granted to Two Local Organizations

The demolition tender has been signed on the old Ramada property in Yorkton.

Silverado Demolition Incorporated was granted the job, and mayor Mitch Hippsley stated that the city was happy to give it to a familiar business.
“Silverado also did some work for us down on York Road a few years ago and did a very good job,” Hippsley said. “We know they’re capable. It’s interesting though to see the landscape of downtown Yorkton is going to change so much and open up a whole bunch of flat land for potential builders.”
The demolition will cost the city 469-thousand dollars.
Noise Bylaw Exemptions
Organizations in Yorkton will have an easier time planning late day events.

Mayor Hippsley notes that city council has given administration the ability to grant an exemption to the noise bylaw.
“We wanted to give our administration just a little bit of wiggle room to be discretionary on an extra half-an-hour or possibly up to an hour,” he explained. “Normally, it would have been 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 p.m. on weekends but by extending it by maybe a half-hour to an hour you can add onto that.”
Core Real Estate was granted an exemption to run a movie in the park event, while Yorkton Pride has an exemption for August 21st.
Hippsley said the decision was an easy one to make.
“Yorkton is coming alive after COVID of course, and we just want to be as helpful as we possibly can for the right organizations. We had two very good ones come to the table tonight, and under normal processes it would take 3 weeks for them to come, but there’s really only 3 or 4 weeks left of summer and of course this will only happen during good weather and good evenings.”
