The Independent Investigation Unit, Manitoba’s civilian police watchdog, will not lay charges in incident in The Pas in July 2019. A suicidal man armed with a gun called 9-1-1, and asked for police to attend and shoot him. After a stand-off in which the suspect refused commands to drop his weapon, a foam-tipped projectile was fired from a low velocity extended range impact weapon, hitting the suspect in the chest. He was subsequently arrested.
