The White Butte RCMP Detachment is participating in a pilot project that allows people to apply for criminal record checks online.
Online criminal record checks are only available to communities that are in the White Butte RCMP’s jurisdiction. It will continue until March of 2022.
The RCMP pilot project initially started in Alberta in 12 communities across that province, and recently expanded to the White Butte Detachment.
“There’s a need for it,” Staff Sargent for the White Butte RCMP Jason Sauve said. “Our detachment area goes pretty far west to Regina to Belle Plaine and that area, so not always easy for residents of the detachment area to get out to our detachment for a criminal record check, and this allows them to do it from the comfort of their home.”
He says only a handful of people have tried it, and staff are also getting familiar with it, but hopes more people will use it moving forward.
People in the service area of the White Butte RCMP will be able to apply for a regular criminal record check as well as Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSC), which are required for people working or volunteering with vulnerable persons, such as children, medical patients, the elderly.
The Saskatchewan RCMP say, in a news release, the turnaround time for online criminal record checks is anticipated to be between 7-14 days, and will be mailed to the applicant.
Criminal record checks will continue to be available in person at all Saskatchewan RCMP Detachment locations, including White Butte.
