Saskatchewan’s teachers say more needs to be done in schools to keep people safe

The province needs to take more action to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in its schools.

That message comes from Saskatchewan Teachers Federation President Patrick Maze who says he has written a letter to the government asking for the most pressing issues to be addressed including inconsistent approaches to declaring outbreaks and isolation requirements.

Maze says it comes down to a simple question for government.

“Do we want to end COVID or do we want to keep schools open at all costs.” Maze said.

Maze would also like to see the Education Sector Response Planning Team to be re-established.  That group helped determine what COVID-19 measures would be put in place.

He says teachers, who are getting burned out, deserve better, students deserve better and families deserve better.

The comments from Maze come just hours after Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said 23 per cent of cases under 11 are connected to school settings, but many continue to come from the household.
