For the first time ever, Manitoba Legislature began with the reciting of a land acknowledgement.
In a news release, Premier Heather Stefanson called the acknowledgement long overdue, and she believes it’s an important step to advance reconciliation in Manitoba.
All three political parties unanimously agreed to the land acknowledgement, following consultation with First Nation, Inuit and Metis leaders.
For the reminder of the fall sitting, the land acknowledgement will be delivered by the Speaker of the house.
