Sask. COVID-19 Update: 119 in hospital, 574 recoveries, no deaths, 1,099 new cases

  • As of January 9th, there are 1,099 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 91,860 reported cases

  • The new cases are located in the Far North West (7), Far North East (2), North West (11), North Central (25), North East (20), Saskatoon (361), Central West (27), Central East (60), Regina (285), South West (54), South Central (35) and South East (133) zones and 79 new cases have pending residence information.
  • Twenty-seven (27) cases were assigned to the North West (8), North Central (11), Saskatoon (2), Central East (3), and Regina (3) zones (see table at the end of report for dates).
  • Fourteen (14) SK residents tested positive out-of-province were added to the case counts in the Saskatoon (7), Central West (1), and Regina (6) zones (see table at the end of report for dates).
  • One (1) SK resident as non-out-of-province with a pending residence location was added to the case counts on January 6, 2022.
  • Nineteen (19) cases were removed; 1 case was removed from Saskatoon zone, and 18 cases with pending residence information were removed from the case counts (see table at the end of report for dates).
  • 91,860 cases are confirmed
    • 22,693 cases are from the Saskatoon area
    • 20,799 cases are from the North area (9,176 North West, 8,594 North Central, 3,029 North East)
    • 18,642 cases are from the Regina area
    • 11,871 cases are from the South area (2,465 South West, 3,491 South Central, 5,915 South East)
    • 9,559 cases are from the Far North area (4,505 Far North West, 543 Far North Central, 4,511 Far North East)
    • 7,153 cases are from the Central area (1,668 Central West, 5,485 Central East)
    • 1,143 cases have pending residence information
  • 7,418 cases are considered active and 83,481 cases are considered recovered.
  • Less than one-half (45.4%) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.
  • As of January 9th, a total of 119 individuals are hospitalized; including 106 inpatient hospitalizations, and 13 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 119 patients, 54 (45.4%) were not fully vaccinated.
  • The SHA dashboard includes 119 hospitalizations: 106 residents are inpatient: of those, 59 inpatient hospitalizations are a COVID-19 – related illness, 36 are incidental, asymptomatic infections and 11 have not yet been determined. 13 residents are in ICUs: of those, 10 are for COVID-19 – related illnesses, two (2) are incidental, asymptomatic infections, and one (1) is undetermined.
  • No (0) new deaths reported today. 961 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died with a case fatality rate of 1.1%.
  • 1,356,321 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of January 5, 2022, when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 1,136,568 tests performed per million population. The national rate was 1,403,367 tests performed per million population (Please note that the last update on PHAC website was January 5, 2021.
  • The 7-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers was 775 (64.3 new cases per 100,000).
  • Since January 1, the New Cases by Vaccination Status table has shown a significant number of new cases as unvaccinated. This data is not accurate. This table is no longer featured on the dashboard until a review of the information is complete and the data rectified.
