Unreported data error leads to 9 new COVID-19 deaths in provincial total

The provincial COVID-19 death toll rose by 9 in the January 2022 update of the Saskatchewan COVID-19 dashboard. A data base error lead to no deaths being reported since the start of 2022 – those numbers have now been adjusted to 969.

According to the Dashboard, “One (1) individual whose death was flagged as COVID-19 previously is no longer flagged, and has been removed from the total”, which is still 969.

Dr. Saqib Shahab says the data error does not reflect the current case count within the province. “These are related to a filter of 31st of December that had to be refreshed.”

The number of new cases has risen by 1233, and currently the province has more than 12,000 active cases. Among the new cases 285 are reported in the Saskatoon area, 302 in the Regina zone, 97 in the central east region

The Provincial hospitalization and ICU numbers have not increased.

Vaccinations across the province  saw an increase of 2123 doses with 1313 Saskatchewan residents receiving their second shot. The province also saw more than 1022 recoveries.
