Yorkton City Council green-lights construction of new Deer Park Golf Course Clubhouse

The City of Yorkton will be going ahead with the construction of the Deer Park Golf Course Clubhouse.

Mayor Mitch Hippsley was pleased to see the project receive the stamp of approval from City Council.

“This is long overdue,” Hippsley said. “It is something that is the oldest piece of rec property we have that needs addressing, and this is a real marketing tool for the City of Yorkton. It’s going to be used by many more people than just the golfers or the non-golfers.”

With a total cost of 7.6-million dollars however, Mayor Hippsley acknowledged a little bit of concern about the project being overbudget. The City had budgeted $7.2-million.

“Of course we don’t want to see any more money than what we’ve already budgeted,” he said.

In the report to Yorkton City Council, the reason for the increase was “due to the difference between estimated and tenders costs for the demolition and construction of the clubhouse building itself.”

NL Construction will be responsible for the construction of the clubhouse itself, while Castle Oilfield Construction will install water and sewer for the site.

Other work includes “contents (furniture), site works, parking lot paving, driveway paving, temporary trailers to accommodate golf course operations for the 2022 season, construction of the water and sewer services, along with corresponding project management fees, contingency and applicable taxes.”
