SaskPower has applied to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel for rate increases.
The provincial power company is seeking a 4 percent increase this year, and another 4 percent increase next year.
If approved, this proposed rate increase would result in residential customers paying 5 dollars more on their bills, starting September 1st this year, and a further 5 dollars on April 1st, next year.
In a news release, SaskPower says the decision to pursue a rate increase “took into consideration the need to maintain a reliable, sustainable electricity system while also minimizing the impact of rate increases on households, farms and businesses.”
**A previous version of this story stated the first rate increase, if approved, would result in customers paying 5 dollars more starting April 1st this year. It has been corrected to say September 1st this year.
