Russian President Vladimir Putin has chosen to target civilians in his attack on Ukraine and the world will hold him accountable for his war crimes.
That from Canada’s Prime Minister when speaking to reporters in Poland today (Thurs).
On Wednesday, a maternity hospital was bombed by Russia in the southern port city of Mariupol.
Justin Trudeau says, “Vladimir Putin has made a terrible mistake and he is going to lose this war. He is going to lose this war because the ferocity and strength and resolve of the Ukrainian people is inspiring us all.”
He suggests because of the resolve of Ukraine’s friends and allies, and countries committed to democracy, the rule of law, and the United Nations charter cannot allow Putin to be successful.
“Putin’s callous disregard for human life is absolutely unacceptable. It is very clear that he has made the choice to specifically target civilians now.”
The federal government is also tripling its original promise to match donations to the Canadian Red Cross earmarked for humanitarian aid in Ukraine, from $10-million to $30-million.
