Charges laid after alleged impaired driving and assault on RCMP officers in Canora

A Preeceville man is facing a total of 9 charges for alleged impaired driving and resisting arrest in Canora.

Canora RCMP received a report yesterday afternoon (Wed) of a possible impaired driver in an SUV on Highway 9.

About 90 minutes later, a vehicle matching the description was located near the intersection of Highway 9 and 2nd Avenue East in Canora, and officers pulled the vehicle over.

While attempting to arrest the man, a struggle ensued, and with the help of 6 additional officers, several town employees, and a taser, the man was eventually taken into custody.

During the struggle, two officers received minor injuries, some of the officers’ equipment was damaged by the suspect, and a nearby elementary school enacted its hold and secure procedures.

32-year-old Kellan Armstrong will appear in Yorkton Provincial Court tomorrow (Fri).
