Pope Francis has apologized for the Roman Catholic Church’s role in the residential school system in Canada. Both Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief Gerald Antoine and Metis National Council president Canada Cassidy Caron called it a historic first step, but needs to be followed up by a Papal visit to Canada. No firm date was set, but official expect it will happen this summer.
