Saskatchewan is sending a small delegation to Germany to expedite immigration for Ukrainians who fled their homes because of Russia’s invasion.
Premier Scott Moe made the announcement during his speech to the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association annual convention today (Mon). He visited a Ukrainian refugee centre in Germany last week.
As well as meeting with refugees and refugee-serving organizations, the delegation will meet with local government officials and other non-governmental organizations supporting supporting displaced Ukrainians in Germany.
The delegation will identify opportunities to streamline the immigration process, whether for months or forever, so that anyone who wants to come to Saskatchewan can get here, and get her quickly.
The Premier told SUMA delegates, “This province, and I hope you can be proud, will literally have boots on the ground in the effort to find a safer place in this world for many that have been displaced by Putin’s war.”
They will be in Berlin April 10th through 13th.
The Legislative Secretary Responsible for Saskatchewan Ukraine Relations, Canora-Pelly MLA Terry Dennis will lead the delegation.
He will be joined by Iryna Matsiuk, member of the Saskatchewan Ukraine Relations Advisory Committee and the Co-Chair of the Ukrainian Canada Congress – Saskatchewan Ukraine Support Committee.
She emigrated to Canada from Ukraine in 2011.
