A case of avian influenza has been detected in Saskatchewan for the first time since 2007.
The case was found in a snow goose near Elrose, and was confirmed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
Small flocks are considered high-risk of infection as there is a high probability of contact with wild birds or environments that may be contaminated with the HPAI virus.
Small flock owners are encouraged to keep their birds indoors if possible during the high risk period of wild bird migration.
There have been numerous cases of avian influenza in poultry and wild birds in several Canadian provinces and in the United States.
