Calgary based Husky Oil has been fined $600 thousand in a Saskatchewan court for Fisheries Act violations after pleading guilty to one count of depositing a deleterious substance into water frequented by fish. It goes back to the 2018 release of approximately 2.8 million litres of process water from a pipeline into a fish-bearing tributary of the North Saskatchewan River. Process water is a by-product of oil and gas production and typically high in salt content. The fine will be directed to the Government of Canada’s Environmental Damages Fund.
