Melville City Council Meets

The first quarter financial report was released at Melville City Council last night and it showed a current operating deficit of over $1.1-million. Finance Director Lynsey Swanson explained it’s not a concern, because the City typically has a deficit in Q1 due to most of the revenue – being propert taxes – coming in Q2 and possibly Q3, which will then turn the deficit into a surplus.
Meantime, Melville City Council has decided to close and remove Kinsmen Park Ball Diamond, and return control of Bob Stewart Field to Melville Comprehensive School. The decision follows a usage review of the 12 ball diamonds, which found that there were too many with the Kinsmen Park and Bob Stewart fields being two of the least utilized compared to the 10 other diamonds in the community.
