Pretty soon, the new swimming pool in Melville will be up-and-running for this summer.

Director of Community Services Chris Bruce says some small things are left before officially opening in early June, weather permitting. Remaining work includes clean-up and waiting for an order of sod to arrive to spruce up the infield.

“Everything is running on schedule,” Bruce said “Hopefully we don’t get another blast of Old Man Winter.”

The project was originally scheduled to be completed last July, but was pushed to this year due to a shipping delay for commercial pool filters, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the time when the project was delayed, Bruce said while he was disappointed, he said he’d rather complete the project right the first time, rather than cut corners.

The new pool replaces the old one that was first built in 1967.
