A Saskatchewan distillery has won a prestigious international award.
Phantom Light Distillery, based out of Prince Albert, won platinum for its vodka at the annual Sip Awards in California – an international spirits competition.
Brendan Miller is one of the partners with Phantom Light Distillery and says its quite the accomplishment for a company that has been on the market for over a year now.
“We beat out some amazing vodkas that have been on the market for a long time, and so we’re super stoked about it,” Miller said of the win, which they found out about via email two days ago. “The phone hasn’t stopped ringing since….so it’s been a whirlwind of a couple days here.”
He says the award is the result of pushing themselves to a high standard. He explained at one point in time, they had to pull some their products off the market because some had a peppery aftertaste, and others had a flowery aftertaste.
“What we have created is something exceptionally smooth and easy drinking, like people can drink it straight on ice and not have that really negative aftertaste usually associated with some vodkas.”
When asked how they were celebrating the occasion , Miller says there was no celebration, just getting back to work and continuing to grow.
“Our goal is to have consistency from here on in…we think we’ve dialed it in and we just want to stay that course because we truly believe we have one of the cleanest tasting vodkas on the market today.”
