A number of muncipalities held a joint council meeting in Stenen on Wednesday night.
Participants included the Town of Sturgis, the Villages of Endeavour, Stenen, and Hyas, as well as the R-M of Preeceville.
Preeceville Mayor Ralph Ager took part in the meeting and noted it was the first such meeting since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s great to get together with our neighbours to discuss the common issues that we all face.” Ager said.
One of the issues discussed was the creation of a regional health advisory board ahead of the construction of a new Yorkton Regional Hospital.
Ager says the board would consist of members from the Yorkton Regional Hospital catchment area “in order to have some strong and diverse input” as to how the hospital is constructed and the services the hospital will provide.
Other issues discussed include the banning of plastic bags use, recycling – specifically the abuse and misuse of the regional drop-off bins – which Ager reminds Preeceville residents that they’re not allowed to dispose of waste in the R-M of Preeceville’s garbage bins.
Also discussed was progress of the proposed regional SaskWater pipeline that Ager says would join the majority of communities in attendance of the meeting “in order to ensure that we’ve got a source of good quality drinking water for years to come.”
