RCMP from Fort Qu’Appelle, Indian Head and White Butte are at the scene of a train derailment.

The derailment happened a little more than 3-kilometres west of Edgeley on the 2154 grid road, north of Highway 364.

Initial reports indicate that fuel may have leaked from the derailed train cars, and responding officers have established a perimeter around the scene.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.

CN confirmed the derailment, stating that 18 railcars had left the tracks.

A small spill of an unknown substance was confirmed, however, no fires were reported in the area.

The investigation remains ongoing.
