Proposed Meat Labelling Draws The Ire Of Producers

Livestock producers in Saskatchewan are critical of proposed new labelling on ground beef and pork by Health Canada, who wants to put new labels on ground beef and pork, pointing to high levels of saturated fat. Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association chair Arnold Balicki says its a wrong decision, and points out the assessment is based on raw ground meat, which much of the fat is removed in the cooking process. A final decision by Health Canada is expected by the end of the month.
