Severe weather and heavy rains have damaged crops in parts of Manitoba, notably in the Southwest and Northwest regions.
Manitoba Agriculture’s Dane Froese says strong winds, heavy rains and hail up to the size of a baseball was reported in the Birtle to Russell area, which did destroy some crops there. He says some crops may recover but it will add delays to overall harvest maturity.
Provincial seeding progress sits at 93 percent complete, up from 91 percent.
Froese says seeding post-insurance deadline has resulted in over 150-thousand acres being planted, bringing the unseeded acreage estimate down to just under 700-thousand acres.
Froese says some low-lying areas will be abandoned or have seed and fertilizer floated on.
