Several local communities receive federal funding for recreation/community projects

Federal Minister for PrairiesCan Daniel Vandal announced today (Wed) $12.8-million in funding to support 56 recreation and community revitalization initiatives.

The money is provided through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund, administered by PrairiesCan. It will support new and improved recreational amenities like playgrounds, museums, community centres and outdoor experiences.

A few communities in the listening area will getting a share of the money for their respective projects.

The Town of Hudson Bay is receiving $187-thousand 500, to expand its municipal trail system; the Town of Kipling $75-thousand to create a park in a vacant downtown lot; and the Town of Stoughton $53-thousand 860 to convert two empty downtown lots on Main Street into a landscaped green space with seating.

The Town of Rocanville is getting $15-thousand 140 to install a permanent outdoor rink with an asphalt base, while the Town of Qu’Appelle receives $15-thousand to also build a permanent outdoor rink.

The Muskowekwan Family Healing & Wellness Centre Inc. is allocating just over $498-thousand for the creation of community cultural gathering spaces at Muskowekwan First Nation.

The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) and the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council will each receive $750-thousand.

FSIN will use it towards the construction of ceremonial spaces and multi-purpose rooms at the FSIN Governance Building on the Kahkewistihaw Urban Reserve in Saskatoon.

File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council is allocating the money for the construction of 3 ball diamonds in Fort Qu’Appelle.
