Two people are dead after the car they were in collided with a van on Highway 1 near Balgonie last night (Mon).

White Butte RCMP say both vehicles collided in the east bound lanes.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old White City man, and the passenger of the car, a 64-year-old Nanaimo B.C. woman were pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS. Their families have been notified.

The adult male driver of the van was taken to hospital with serious injuries but RCMP don’t have an update on his condition.

Highway 1 was closed during the initial investigation but has since re-opened. RCMP continue to investigate with the help of an RCMP collision reconstructionist.
