Handful of local rural communities among 30 to have cell towers upgraded by SaskTel

SaskTel announced an investment of $10-million to upgrade cell towers in 30 rural communities.

The work includes installing Samsung Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment and upgrades to increase the 4G LTE data capacity of SaskTel’s wireless network.

Lestock, Montmartre, Norquay, Quill Lake, and Ituna are among those receiving upgrades which are anticipated to be complete by the end of March, 2023.

“In addition to enhancing the wireless experience that our customers receive today, these upgrades will lay the foundation for the deployment of 5G in the future as we continue our work to bring the next generation in wireless technology to our customers across the province,” said SaskTel President and CEO Doug Burnett in a news release.

These network upgrades are a part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest more than $1.5-billion in capital projects over the next 5 years.
