Premier Scott Moe is promising action to protect Saskatchewan from what he says are destructive federal policies that could cost the province’s economy 111-billion dollars by 2035.
The figure comes from a provincial Finance Ministry analysis of nine different federal climate change policies that is included in a policy paper released today by Moe. The policy paper, titled “Drawing the Line: Defending Saskatchewan’s Economic Autonomy”, can be found here.
He says the current federal government has been intruding into Saskatchewan’s jurisdiction over natural resources under the guise of federal environmental regulations.
Moe says the province will introduce legislation to clarify and protect Saskatchewan’s constitutional rights to maintain control over electricity as well as emissions from fertilizer and oil and gas production.
