Saskatchewan’s highway ministry has delayed implementing their winter weight program. Normally, the season runs November 16th to March 14th, but milder weather has pushed the start back. Colder temperatures during the winter months help freeze and strengthen roads, meaning more weight can be transported on provincial highways without damaging the road. But the highway department notes without sufficient freezing, extra weight can damage pavement and the road beneath.
