The apartment at Riverview and Ashwood damaged in 2 different fires since last night is being demolished, after the structure was deemed not safe.
Yorkton fire chief Trevor Morrissey says there was an explosion on the 2nd floor of the building this morning, which resulted in 2 firefighters receiving minor injuries, and there are indicators of forcible entry into the building before this morning’s blaze. Morrissey also says crews responded to the same apartment last night for a different fire, which was completely extinguished when they left.
SaskEnergy was brought in this afternoon to deal with a natural gas leak, while firefighters evacuated nearby home owners and advised everyone to steer clear of the area. SaskEnergy later advised the City of Yorkton that the situation was being managed and “everyone affected can return to their houses”. SaskEnergy will continue to monitor the scene. Yorkton Fire Protective Services is telling people to stay away from the immediate scene so crews can clean up.
Meanwhile, Serendipity Yorkton has bins set up to accept donations, whether it be household items or cash donations for affected residents.
