Two new Physician Assistants have been recruited in Swan River.
One of them is Charnae Betcher, a Swan River resident who started working in her home town earlier this month.
Betcher graduated with a Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from the University of Manitoba (UM) in October, and is grateful to serve in the community she grew up in.
The other is James Awuah, who started in mid-November, and had previously been practicing emergency medicine and family medicine in North Dakota and South Dakota before coming to the Swan Valley Health Centre.
Physician Assistants practice under the supervision of a physician, and among other things, can conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, assist in surgery and write prescriptions.
As of this month, there are currently 10 Physician Assistants practicing within Prairie Mountain Health in Brandon, Dauphin and Swan River.
