Two people have been charged in connection with a stolen vehicle case in Regina.
Early this morning (Mon), a police canine unit reported seeing a vehicle matching the description of a yellow Kia Seltos that was reported stolen.
It was seen on the 800 block of Elliot Street, and when the unit approached the vehicle, which appeared abandoned, two suspects exited and ran away, but the police dog managed to catch one suspect, and the other was arrested while trying to flee in a cab.
Police allege the second suspect was in possession of a sawed-off shotgun and shotgun ammunition.
20-year-old James Cyr, of the Punnichy District, and 18-year-old Dakota Button, of Regina, both appeared in Regina Provincial Court today.
Cyr is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over and under $5-thousand.
Button is charged with 2 counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition; possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace; careless use of firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm; unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a vehicle; possession of a loaded firearm; and possession of property obtained by crime over and under $5-thousand.
