GX94’s Top News Story of August 2022: Memorial Park named after RCMP Constable Shelby Patton

In August, a park in Indian Head was named after an RCMP officer.

Mayor Steven Cole says the naming of the park happened shortly after the death of Constable Shelby Patton.

Constable Patton died in the line of duty in June of 2021, after responding to a report of a stolen vehicle in Wolseley.

RCMP Inspector Devin Puth acknowledged that they lost a good officer, describing Patton as very dedicated, smart, articulate, and had a great work ethic.

Facility Operations Manager of Indian Head, MacKenzie Craige, notes there was a lot of community support to make the memorial park possible.

The Park features a red maple leaf on the pavement entering the park, along with a “Cst. Shelby Patton Memorial Park” sign, a monument honouring Patton, playground equipment as well as exercise equipment.
