A joint investigation involving numerous agencies, including the RCMP, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, and the Ministry of Finance’s Revenue Enforcement team, has resulted in a major seizure of contraband tobacco products.
On December 20th, a Highway Patrol Officer pulled over a westbound commercial vehicle hauling a trailer, for inspection at Whitewood.
The officer made observations leading to a Tobacco Tax Act investigation, and a subsequent search led to the seizure of the vehicle, which contained almost 29,000 illegal cigars, and 6-point-6 million illegal cigarettes.
64-year-old Matthew Wright, of Edmonton, will appear in Broadview Court on February 15th, charged with numerous tobacco offences.
