Sioux Valley Man Faces Several Charges After Armed Standoff

A Sioux Valley Dakota Nation man, charged in connection with an armed standoff at a home on the reserve Saturday night, remains in custody, with his first court appearance set for tomorrow in Brandon.

At 7:45 p.m., Virden RCMP were called to the residence, on a report of a man armed with a knife, threatening the residents.

When Mounties arrived, the suspect had fled the scene, and police set up a traffic stop, which the accused refused to stop for, and when officers followed him, he abandoned his vehicle and entered a home in the community, barricading himself inside.

Two people in the home were taken from the premises through a window, and just after 12 a.m. Sunday morning, Emergency Response Team members were able to enter the home and take 42-year-old Bruce Branth into custody.
